You see today when some set of people quote fataawa of scholars on Islamic matters(of which ordinarily there’s nothing wrong with), if the fataawa are not correct and cannot be justified by Islamic evidences or devoid scholarship; a person trying to put the common fatwa/fataawa in a right perspective will be accused of waging war against/opposing the “Senior Scholars of Sunnah”.
When the person tries further to showcase Islamic scholarship, the advocates of “this is what the senior scholars of Sunnah said” keep parroting(copying and pasting) the fataawa and opinions of a specific religious establishment.
You should not expect the advocates to do independent research or say beyond that because they(the specific religious establishment) awarded them their PhD, materials, with zero dime.
Meanwhile, the prerequisite of a mujtahid qualified to give fatwa is his full grasp of reality. A brainwashed fellow who cannot distinguish the dichotomy between theory and reality is better limited to given fatwa on salat, Nifas and ghusl.
They have streamlined their educational curriculum for a predetermined political objective. And the fact that their studying had been made easy and without tears by the government, makes them perpetually loyal to Riyadh policy which sees Islamic organisations, political participation as a threat to her hegemony and dominance.
Therefore, they cannot think beyond what they are programmed to accept in their university or else they will become outcast and enemy of “sunnah”.
I have not seen university graduates with such myopic understanding of reality and world view like some of these alumni of Islamic university Medina. Some of them are even afraid to express contrary view based on their own conviction from Kitab wa sunnah; they dare not propose a thesis or research work that is not acceptable to the political establishment of the kingdom. They are under constant fear of their certificate being withdrawn or being ostracized. They are perpetually loyal to a system that is not a basis of shari’ah.
People like Sheikh AbdulRahman Khaliq were living in constant fear of being blackmailed; even Dr Bilal Philips had to be treading sofly. Once you are a student, you are living in fear of expressing a contrary view; lest they withdraw your scholarship or deport you back to your country which will be a shame no student will desire. So what type of knowledge is that?
So the consequence is that their university will only churn out docile students who lack real intellectual value. Although, they may be expert in Fiqh of wuduh, inheritance, Nifas, Haidoh.
The likes of Sheikh Abdur Rahman Khaliq, Dr Bilal Philips have been considered Surooriy; Dr Bilal Philips initially was in fear, but has not yet completely freed himself.
And the likes of Dr Yasir Qadhi, Mufti Ismail Menk ‘never gave a damn’. They never cared about the saudi religious establishment because it is usually common for people who have teachers outside the Saudi Sheikh religious establishment to damn the consequence.
Bilal Philips was a convertee from Jamaica, just like Abdullah Faisal; the Faisal who later became Osama ally.
All these Bilal Philips, Yasir Qadhi, Mufti Menk, come to your local country – Dr Asrau’, the Madkhali-Salafi warned students from taking knowledge from them and lebelled them Mumayi’oon/Suruuriyyoon!
Their only offense is they refused to get indoctrinated by the programmed religious establishment by the so called Senior Scholars of Sunnah. And that is their fight against Ibn Taofeeq’s articles.
Just like I said in paragraph one and four, there is no problem in quoting and giving regards to the scholars fataawa, but it is sad fatwa has taken over Islamic scholarship!!!
