Fiqh Aspect of Salatul Eid (part 2)

Question Four:

If the worshipper raises his hands along with the tekbeeraat, should he place the hands on the chest or on the thighs after the tekbeeraat?

Answer:

This is another question differed upon by the Jurists. The Hanafiyyah opined he should place the hands on the chest after each tekbeer; while the Shaafi’iyah opined the hands should be placed on the thighs.

The most correct: The discourse on this is very wide; if the worshippers wishes, he place the hands by his sides/on the thighs and if he wishes he place it on the chest.

Question Five:

What (adhkaar) should be said between the tekbeeraat?

Answer:

The valid differences on this can be summarized into two:

The first opinion: nothing should be said after each tekbeer. And this is the opinion of the Hanafiyyah and Maalikiyyah.

The second opinion: it is sunnah for the worshipper to say “SubhaanaAllah walhamdullillah wa Allahu Akbar” or any forms of permissible glorification and praises to Allah within the tekbeeraat.

This is the saying of the Shaafi’iyah and Hanabillah.

Their evidence is the narration of Ibn Mas’uud radiya Allahu anhu, that he was asked about what to be said in between the tekbeeraat; and he replied: “Allah should be praised, glorified, and blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad”.

The most correct: if one can say the adhkaar “SubhaanaAllah walhamdullillah wa solla Allahu ala Muhammad tesleeman ketheeran” or any form of permissible adhkaar in praising Allah and His Messenger, that is good. And if the worshipper cannot/did not say anything, there is no problem with that also.

Question Six

If the worshipper forgets the tekbeeraat on solaat, what should he do?

Answer:

If the worshipper while on solaat started the recitation and realized he did not say the tekbeeraat after the tekbeeratul ihraam, what the Imam/individual will do is explained in two ways:

The first opinion: he will return to say the tekbeeraat as soon as he remember or got reminded and start the recitation again; and after the solaat, he will do sujuud sahw.

This is the saying of the Hanafiyyah, Maalikiyyah, Shaafi’iyyah, and Hanabillah. And their evidence is that he hasn’t exited the state of the tekbeeraat, he is still on standing and the tekbeeraat are said while standing.

The second opinion: he won’t return to the tekbeeraat; and if he likes, he should do sujuud sahw after the solaat and if he likes, he shouldn’t.

And this is a narration from Imam Shaafi’i and the opinion chosen by Imam Nawawi. Also a narration from the Hanabillah and chosen by Ibn Quddaamah.

Their evidence is that the tekbeeraat are done before the recitation, and if the Imam or individual has started the recitation, then the tekbeeraat is gone and he shouldn’t return back to it.

The most correct will be the easiest for the worshipper; because the tekbeeraat are not compulsory part of the solaat and to be on a saver side, it may be said if forgotten and sujuud sahw may be done after the solaat.

Question Seven:

When is the exact time of the solaatul Eid?

Answer:

There is no exact time for the solaat since exact time was not fixed by the Prophet. It is just like saying salatul Zuhr is 2:00pm.

There are instances where the sun is just rising at 7:00am(Nigeria time) which any form of solaat is disallowed.

The time for eid starts about 15mins after the sun rises and it end when the sun shift a bit from the horizon. The chosen time by the community or family within this range should be the exact time.

And it is encouraged to delay eidul fitr salat while eidul adhaa salat is observed earlier.

Eid-ul Mubaarak.
