Meanings of protest:
Nouns:
1: a statement or action expressing disapproval of or objection to something.
2: (law): a written declaration, typically by a notary public, that a bill has been presented and payment or acceptance refused.
Verbs
1: express an objection to what someone has said or done.
2: declare (something) firmly and emphatically in response to doubt or accusation.
NOTE:
A: Not all protest are violent. How you make your protest determines its ruling.
B: The fundamental ruling of Protest is permissibility and sunnah. It maybe Waajib (obligation) as the case turns. The one we all held against the Lautech saga is a Waajib on us all.
C: Demonstration does not define Protest. Demonstration is just a kind/type among the kinds of Protest. When there’s a maslahah (necessity), then we engage in it.
D: Protest maybe physical; for those who has the access to the concerned person (s). As well it maybe virtual through social media handles. The goal is to effect change and betterment to the community.
E: Protest is directed towards all kind of oppression, victimization, maltreatment, despotism abuse, tyranny; coming from a ruler/king/president/leader or a mere wrongdoer! Islam never condones oppression!!!
