WHAT IS THE SIN OF QARADAAWI? (Volume 2)

In the first volume of this series, we discussed the allegation levelled against Sheikh Yuusuf Al-Qaradaawi whereby he was accused of kufr for saying: “الحرية مقدمة على تطبيق الشريعة”
“Freedom is a precursor to shari’ah application”.

Another famous allegation in which he was accused of kufr and labelled mubtadee'(innovator) for, is his statement when Pope John Paul II died.

There are series of videos and refutations as regard this accusation. You will come accross a famous video where his statement was presented, then refutation of Sh. Ishaaq Huwaini upon him.

The video of the refutation of Sh. Ishaaq Huwaini is 6:56mins. Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/vpBM7VBwR8o

Another famous video of same allegation but refutation from Sh. Muzammil Faqiri of Sudan is 2:43 mins. Watch the video here:

Let me buttress this…..

Allegation: Qaradaawi sought Allah’s forgiveness and blessings for a kaafir(The Pope) and also regarded the Christians as “our brethren – ikhwaanunaa”.

Answer to the allegation:

The individual who alleges Qaradaawi of Kufr for his statements when the Pope passed on should know that the statement was not a fatwa, the statement was uttered by Sheikh Qaradaawi the following day Pope John Paul II died on April 2nd, 2005 and it was during a question and answer session. In the first video referenced, you will hear the voice of the Sheikh said “next question”.

So, Qaradaawi condoled the Vatican on Shariah wal Ayat program of Al Jazeera during the question and answer segment.

This Pope, while he was alive, supported the Palestinian struggle, publicly criticized the Jew and several other intervention of his toward oppressed Muslims countries. He stood for peace and stood against war in Iraq then.

Equally you must know that the mischievous people who intend to blackmail Qaradaawi cut and joined his wordings, they put forward and backward, and that is why all their evidences you will see are presenting Qaradaawi’s statement in audio form. I challenge them to present the actual video; afterall it was a TV porgamme. They dare not.

In the first video I referenced, Sh. Ishaq Al-Huwaini who alleged Qaradaawi of kufr and said Qaradaawi sought Allah’s blessings upon a kaafir, whereas, in the same audio he was responding to, there is no where Qaradaawi mentioned such statement.

You should also know that Huwani who was 49 years old as at 2005 then, was equally not free from the salafi abuse and insult in recent times, he has lately been branded Ikhwani and Khariji. It is equally important to know the date of all these refutations, most of it were old because some of them had lost grace and have been humiliated by the same salafi fraternity they sought to defend.

In the month of May 2015, the same Huwani was seriously hospitalized in Qatar and despite differences, Sheikh Qaradaawi visited him at the hospital. And at the same point, Huwaini upon sighting Qaradaawi was saying أنا من أصغر تلاميذك, انا بعض ولدك Meaning: “I am one of your pupils, I am one of your sons”. Which means Huwaini who made a refutation and was still hot with the Salafiyyah exuberance has clearly retracted his speeches and admitted he is one of the students of Sheikh Qaradaawi. Huwaini is from Egypt and they were the early Salafiyyah advocates in Egypt, he wa popular then and also stayed with Sheikh Al-Albaani for some time. Raslan is now the reigning champion in Egypt, very soon they will use and dumb him also.

Coming to the main statement Sheikh Qaradaawi was accused of kufr for, Qaradaawi never said Allah should forgive the Pope, neither did he say Allah should have mercy on his soul, what Sheikh Qaradaawi actually said(and is apparent in the 2 videos referenced above) was:
اسأل الله أن يعوض الأمة المسيحية فيه خيرا
Meaning: “I beseech Allah that He compensate the Christian nation with something good.”

When Huwaini and Muzammil of Sudan would present Qaradaawi speech in their refutation videos, they alleged him of saying: “and greetings to our brethren in Rome, Pakistan..” whereas, what Qaradaawi said was “and greetings to our freinds in Rome, Pakistan..”

He said “Asdiqaa-unaa”, they mischievously translated as “ikhwaanunaa”. Why can’t Muslims keep refutation honest? It is a disease of the heart.

Importantly, you should know condolence(التعزية) is an elaborate issue of discussion in Fiqh, most especially to peaceful non Muslims.

From the time of the salaf immemorial, they would send condolences to non-Muslims and visit them if need arises. The scholars of the Hanafiyyah, Shaafi’iyyah, and a narration from Imam Maalik and Imam Ahmad all permitted sending condolence to non-Muslims and they based their evidences on the statement of Allah in Suratu Mumtahanah verse 8, Allah says:
لَّا يَنْهَاكُمُ اللَّهُ عَنِ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يُقَاتِلُوكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ وَلَمْ يُخْرِجُوكُم مِّن دِيَارِكُمْ أَن تَبَرُّوهُمْ وَتُقْسِطُوا إِلَيْهِمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُقْسِطِينَ
Meaning: Allah does not forbid you respecting those who have not made war against you on account of (your) religion, and have not driven you forth from your homes, that you show them kindness and deal with them justly; surely Allah loves the doers of justice.

And it was reported from the salaf that the part of the statements they would say in sending condolences to non-Muslims are:
“عوضكم الله خيراً”
The same statement Qaradaawi made that they labelled him a kaafir and innovator for.

Among the permissible statements narrated from the salaf are:
أخلفكم خيرا، أعظم الله أجرك و صبرك.
Or أعطاك الله على مصيبتك أفضل مما أعطى أحدا من اهل دينك…

As stated by Ibn Aa’bideen Al Hanafiy in his book رد المحار Volume 2, page 242, printed by دار الفكر. Also reported by Imam Nawawi in his Al-Majmuu’ volume 5, page 275; Al Mughni of Ibn Quddaamah, Volume 2 page 410…

Also, the accepted Sheikh among the Salafiyyah fraternity, Sheikh Ibn Baaz also passed the fatwa in his Majmuu’ Fataawa that sending condolence to non-Muslims is sunnah and he even said you can visit the deceased family and they can offer you coffee, tea, sweets, that all these are good. The same fatwa passed by the Author( موسى الحجاوي أبو النجا) of the famous Hanabillah fiqh book Al Iqnaa’ and cited references from Abu Daawud, Nasaai and Imam Ahmad that the Prophet instructed Ali bn Abee Taalib to bury his father who died a kaafir.

Sheikh Ibn Saalih Al-Uthaimin also issued a fatwa permitting sending condolence to non-Muslims in his liqaa Baab Al-Maftuuh.

Is it halal for the Salaf, Ibn Baaz, Ibn Uthaimin, the Saudi scholars, and haram for Qaradaawi?

My dear reader, what is the sin of Qaradaawi?

Despite all these misconceptions and lies against the personality of the humbled Sheikh Qaradaawi, he still presented a khutbah in 2006 (posted on his official YouTube channel) to clear this ambiguity and explained that the Pope was not a Muslim and he did not pray for Allah’s blessings for him. Watch video here: https://youtu.be/Basd5WmyX90

After all these explanations, if you have once accused Sheikh Yuusuf Al-Qaradaawi of kufr based on this false lie, I will advise you to seek Allah’s forgiveness and desist from such henceforth. And to the Madkhali – salafi who still uses this allegation against Sheikh Qaradaawi, if indeed you are truthful, I challenge you to provide your evidences and start your refutation on the Sahaabah, Abu Haneefah, Shaafi’i, Saudi scholars, Ibn Baaz, Uthaimin and others.

To be continued in Shaa Allah.
